Dragon Dispatches from the Divine Dragon

Okay, so I’m sure I should be sharing some sort of pithy and deep thoughts now that I’m getting all nicely settled into my new home.

But you know what?

It’s Spring out there!!

That’s right – “Spring has sprung” in all Her beautiful majesty, and I simply can’t focus my brain on facts and figures….

Debra and I have been out and about to one degree or another every day since we’ve been here – all of a week now – and it is … well, frankly, it is a gift.

My cup of gratitude runneth over right now.

Just walking briskly up and down our main neighborhood street leads to visions such as this:

Azaleas

Turning the corner and walking a way up the next street offers this:

I think we’ve officially got every window open – or at least all of the ones that do open….

Let me tell you, after being far too sedentary for far too long, it feels absolutely marvelous to get my butt moving regularly again!!

We’ve been up the street to the local shops – including our Whole Foods grocery and an awesome store called Twig.

This store carries sustainably made clothing and kitchen accessories, cooperative toys and games, locally (or regionally) made soaps, etc.

They were one of our favorite haunts before we moved away, and we’re delighted they’re still here – and have even expanded.

We have a really cool local pet store close by too, with a much healthier selection of food … and toys….

(Not that we spoil our cats with lots of silly toys or anything….  Or that they ignore them to play with paper, boxes or the occasional bug that wanders in.)

So even though I’m settling back into my workaday routine – listened to the latest module of my fantastic Functional Probiotics course (taught by the amazing Steph Jackson, read my “homework” from my next-to-last Medicinal Plants and Spiritual Evolution 2.0 class, and, um, working on this very blog post – I’m somewhat distracted by the beauty of the season.

Spring is the time of rebirth, when the Earth blooms again in all of Her unmatched color and scent.

This year in particular, it’s a time of renewal for me – my shorts are too tight, my legs ached pretty steadily for the first couple of walks, and my digestion still isn’t as good as I would like – and I am embracing it with all of the joy and gratitude I can feel.

I am overcome with gratitude for this opportunity to “start over,” and get my health (and my life!!) back on track.

I’ve got myself a fresh new pair of walking shoes, a laptop stand to turn my regular desk into a “stand-up” desk, and a location where I can actually go places without having to drive every which way.

How cool is it to walk uphill to the library, and carry a delightfully heavy backpack full of books back home?

Now that’s a good workout!!

Okay, I’m not quite ready for that yet, but soon….

And there’s a really great trail through the neighborhood, which can make the walk to the local shopping center longer (more exercise!) and much more enjoyable – Nature, trees, deer, rabbits, birds!!

My favorite errand when I lived here before involved going out the back way, walking the trail and stopping at Whole Foods for a bag or two full of groceries on the (shorter) way home.

Have I mentioned how grateful I am to be back?

And right at the beginning of Spring in all Her glory?

Ahh….

You captured that timeless joy and freedom of being able to get outside, move and see and feel the beauty of Spring come up all around us. Your flowers pictures were jumping right out at me! It’s great when a desired to read can exercise your mind and body like your trip to the library!

Brad — Thank you! Nature provided the flowers, and I’ve figured out that the iPhone makes a really swell camera. Diane really captured something in her writing with this one. Debra
