Bulletproof and Delicious!

Dynamic_Dolphin From the Dynamic Dolphin’s Kitchen

As Diane noted in the last article, we’ve recently tried our own version of BULLETPROOF™ beverages.

We’d both thought the idea of it was worth a try, and having recently purchased Dave Asprey’s The Bulletproof Diet, the time seemed right.

Challenge:  Diane can’t drink coffee, including decaf.  I used to be able to tolerate decaf, but it’s been a while.  So, what to do?

Option:  BULLETPROOF™ green tea.  We just happened to have some matcha green tea on hand.

Plus the addition of vanilla whey protein powder .  Plant protein powders will work just as well – it’s the vanilla flavor that’s important.

So we tried it.  And loved it!

We started with every other day, but quickly realized we wanted to do this “bulletproof” thing every morning.

New challenge:   What to do with the chocolate whey protein we already had?

Option:  Why not try the chocolate with yerba maté, since we’ve enjoyed many cups of Guayaki’s Maté Chocolatte.

Another win!

Then a third option presented itself:  Runa’s Clean Energy guayusa  tea.  The cinnamon lemongrass variety is excellent with the vanilla protein.

Score again!

Then came the latest variety – Maté Factor’s Dark Roast yerba mate with the chocolate protein.

So many options, so little time….

Here’s the basic recipe with the variations we’ve managed so far.  Enjoy!

green tea latte in a mug

“Bulletproof-Style” Tea Beverages

Basic Matcha Tea:

16-20 oz. hot water

1 tsp matcha tea powder

1 tsp to 1 Tbsp BULLETPROOF™ Brain Octane oil

1 Tbsp grass-fed butter or ghee (we use the latter)

1 serving of vanilla protein (we’re using Dr. Josh Axe’s Healing whey)

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

Variations:

Chocolate Maté

Instead of matcha tea powder, steep 1 tea bag of plain yerba mate for 5-7 minutes, and then combine as above, using chocolate protein powder.

Cinnamon-Lemongrass guayusa

Steep 1 tea bag of cinnamon-lemongrass guayusa for 5-7 minutes, and then combine as above, with the vanilla protein.

Dark Roast Mocha

Steep 1 tea bag of dark roast yerba mate for 5-7 minutes, and then combine above, using the chocolate protein.

Have fun with this – there’s no telling what our next “experiment” will be.  Feel free to post yours in the comments.

Again, love your article and have a question. Instead of using BULLETPROOF™ Brain Octane oil, can I use normal Virgin Coconut oil and what is the difference in outcome? Thanks. I do my own herbal mixture teas (various depending on mood or ailment) and added coconut oil, it tastes great, I am just sipping it as I write here

Hi Andrea — I don’t see where using Virgin Coconut oil would be a problem. It would be of benefit to the brain, though possibly not quite as much as the Brain Octane oil and hard to say to what degree, at least without doing further research on the subject. It sounds like it would make a delicious combo with herbal tea blends! Debra

      Hey Andrea,

I use a good quality MCT oil which is slightly different from just coconut oil and is essentially the same as Brain Octone Oil but not under the Bulletproof brand banner.

I travel with a blender now. Can’t imagine starting my day without my Bulletproof white earl gray tea from Teavana.
